sld- I guess it is easier for me to take a chance to win the 1.5x of my original bet because I play low stakes. I have played your modified progression and enjoyed it thoroughly. It seems that the odds are in your favor. Just an observation. By the way, what are the odds more than one BJ come up in one hand? Thanks. |

Michigan Dave-Let\'s put it this way, if I\'m at the upper end of a 50/hand progression, I\'ve got 150-250 out there. I\'m probably going to regress once I hit 150 for the second time anyway, so just take the 150 and then go back to 50. That way you have sealed a nice run of around 700 (50,50,75,75,100,100,150,150) and you go back to 50. |

D- How to play the soft hands and when to split the small pairs, are the hardest for a new player to learn. You will find that they get easier and you will be looking at the cheat sheet, less and less. |

Correct me if I\'m wrong, but isn\'t the upper end of your progression the time NOT to take even money?. It seems your giving some big money away. |

Trip report : Great trip and a fun weekend, I even got to go for a ride in the Grifters vet. That puppy will run..... I was in Vegas, ( long enough to rent a car) and then drove to Laughlin to meet up with the Grifter. We had a summit meeting, talked BJ for hours. Good things always come from our brainstorming sessions. This was no exception. How did we do ? One won a little and one lost a little, but we had a million dollars worth of fun..... |

007- I take even money on BJ, BUT only rarely. There are times, it is the right play. To take it everytime, is the wrong play. The times that you get paid time and a half, (1 1/2 to 1), will More than offset the times, that you push. Most people don't really understand the insurance bet. They will say, I don't have a hand worth insuring, or they will take it when they have a 20. Look at a single deck game for a minute ( even if you don't play it) There are 16, 10 count cards, (10-J-Q-K x 4 = 16) in the deck and 36 non 10 count cards, if you have a 20 on the first hand and the dealer has an Ace up. That leaves only 14 chances for him to have a BJ and 36 chances for him, Not to have a BJ. It is a Side Bet. You are only betting on, IF the dealer has a BJ, what your cards are doesn't matter. Sure, if you take even money you win both ways, when the dealer has a BJ and when he doesn't. Looks good (only sure bet in the casino, is another saying) But the bottom line is, you will make more by, Not taking even money. If you want to take even money on the upper end of your progression, do it. When you get there you want to win that bet, you can now do so, by taking even money. Just remember, if you take it all the time it is Costing you money, Not making you money..... |

played this weekend in Detroit. I have been using BS for some time, but this was my first progressive betting method. It was great! It really helps you recover your losses and, unexpectantly, i was much better able to track my winning streaks. Thanks for all the infor here. i am a daily reader. (I was $15 down after 4 hrs play with $5 - $25 bets.) i call that a GOOD day. |

steve, hawkeye, kevco, ps - Thank you for all of your insight. I guess an old dog CAN learn new tricks. Regarding taking insurance on a BJ, I especially like Kevco\'s statement about only taking it on the upper end of a progression. It seems to me that in my modified Dahl/Thomason progression you also might want to take it after you have lost 3 hands in a row and you are trying to stay in the shoe, as well. That\'s why I read this site--always more info. |

I have to agree with never take insurance bet. The math as presented here is clear cut. Even though its a sure thing its a \'casino bet\' why think their way. I\'ll start taking it when I learn to count, and the count says so. I didn\'t come out winners at Tunica this weekend, 5 games, 2 winners, 1 at double my by in, 1 at 50% profit, then 3 losers, 2 at 100% of my buy in, 1 at 80%. Consoled myself on the Ballys 25 cent crap table, too bad, if i had been at $5 units I would have made it all back, but stuck to $1 units. Will chalk it up to varience. I\'m following midnite and grifters advise now and just play two BS recipes, 1 for multideck, which with all the practice I do I dont need a cheat sheet, 1 for the 1 or 2 deck games which are not that hard to find in Tunica at 5 dollar limit tables, try Ballys and Fitgeralds. I still need a 3x5 cheat sheet for this game but it stayed in my pocket the whole time so Im getting better. |

The house has a little over a 5% edge when you take even money on a BJ all the time. The only time I would EVER take even money is when you are at the upper end of a betting progression. |

D- I know the feeling.I did the same thing before I went to Vegas although mine was modified (colored coded and LARGE words. Didn't trust my new bi-focals) from this site. I will pare it down now I know my weaknesses. The pit boss @ Bally's checked it out and kept it for a few hands. The paper stock I used had a glossy finish to it and the laser printer made it look quite shiny. My impression was that he thoughtI was using it for something other than a cheat sheet(I was at first base).Think I was being too paranoid? He did change dealers right after. |

Michigan Dave, I made a personal cheat sheet with just the ace, 2-7 combinations and pair split basic strategies. I keep it close because I also just can't seem to remember the correct move for those plays.
