Bijou Also, does anyone know of any websites other than www.casey-computer.com which sells these things. 2003-06-03 05:45:47
Bijou Has anyone had any experiences with the Casey Blackjack computer or anything similar? If so, how well does it really work, and is it illegal in every state? 2003-06-03 05:35:44
Desert Dog Ronman5000: Casino AZ @ McKellips/101 has a few restaurants with ok food; but it's crowded on weekends, so hard to get a $5 or $10 minimum table then. The one at Indian Bend is a little easier to get a table, but food choices more limited. Competent dealers at both locations. I don't think Gila offers live blackjack yet. 2003-06-02 22:48:41
steve Desert Dog: a rose by any other name is still a bad bet. 'Even money' on a dealer ace up when you have a BJ is insurance, the chances of the dealer having a ten is 4/13, you take even money you are giving away hard earned player advantage in the long run. Only take insurance when the count tells you to. 2003-06-02 12:00:35
Midnite Craig - Most will allow you to use one, IF you don't hold up the game, while using it. Some will not let you use one, so you always need to ask. Several casinos even sell them in their gift shops. 2003-06-02 11:29:15
Craig Do casinos allow you to bring one of these cheat sheet hit or stand cards to the table? 2003-06-02 10:02:44
ronman5000 I haven't been since they've had live dealers. Planning one soon though. I went to Gila River a while back and gave the stupid slots 50 bucks...and the buffet was not appetizing....people standing in line 3 or 4 deep at every game. I'm hoping the live blackjack isn't that way. 2003-06-01 21:58:04
Desert Dog I never buy insurance, Ronman, even if I have a strong hand, but sometimes if even money is offered when I have a blackjack, I'll take it. Do you play blackjack at either of the Casino Arizona locations or at Fort McDowell? 2003-06-01 21:30:10
ronman5000 Thanks, Steve. Well said Mike. Desert Dog....I'm in Phoenix as well. Thanks for the info. Do any of you guys buy insurance when dealer is showing ace? 2003-06-01 20:31:16
Maverick What is this Dahl betting progression I hear you guys talking about. 2003-06-01 20:07:28
Desert Dog I'm new to this forum. Arizona's Native American casinos started real blackjack in Feb. Of the three closest to me (dangerously only a few minutes from home), two use CSM's only, and one uses ASM's then load to a shoe. All have 'dealer hits soft 17', 'double anything' and 'double after splits' rules. None permit surrenders. All Blackjacks pay 3 to 2. I always follow basic strategy, and usually a 1-2-3 positive betting progression, starting bet 2 units. My question: For progressive betting, will I do better with the CSMs, or would I do better at the tables that deal from a shoe and build up a pile of discards? Or does it matter? Here's my thinking -- positive progressive betting reacts to the start of a trend by increasing on wins and decreasing on losses. A trend can be caused by clumping of player-friendly cards at a certain point in a shoe, dealer-friendly cards at a certain other point. With a CSM, there is a constant shuffle, and just-played cards get right back into the mix, so there never is any clumping. So could that also mean there is no advantage to progressive betting at a CSM? 2003-05-31 22:24:39
steve Ronmann5000, pick a basic strategy and learn in so its second nature, if you want find two you are comfortable with, one for multi deck games, one for 1-2 deck games, and never think about straying, play it like a robot. Im an emperical guy, but the newtonians win this one. This will allow you to either learn to count, or try to find a good betting/discipline system. If you play by instinct you will be the casinos favorite guy: a 15% loser, instead of a minus one to plus one percent strong player, the kind casinos have no use for. 2003-05-30 17:06:04
itonater I'm gonna try 007's modified Dahl tommorrow. It seems like a good betting progression. 2003-05-30 12:32:57
steve Sage, don't discount card counting yet. My goal is to learn the count well enough to start adjusting my game based on it and still keep to a basic progression, that is, applying the well characterized short list of indices (illustrous 18), then figure if I'm able to transit to pure count strategy. If you'll email me at serick@ipa.net I will send you 5 progressions, from conservative to aggressive, that John Coppa says are the most popular with 'strong' players in the casinos, people who know how to bet. Coppa is a 20 yr veteran Vegas pit boss/dealer. You'll see that I've adjusted the most aggressive to fit the 3 or 4 streak run recipe in my earlier post; all these progressions are meant to be used until the win streak finally culminates in a loss. One thing I found interesting is the most conservative is way more aggresive than Thomason/Dahl. There is no doubt that our game the way we play it now, is a negative expectation one, but by betting smart and using discipline you can be a 'stronger' player than 9/10 blackjack players in the casino, and you can't do that flat betting. 2003-05-30 11:46:18
Sage sld007. Thanks for comments about the real world of progressions, so far I’ve only been flat betting at the Casino and doing the progressions on a computer. Your progression is behind flat betting ½ unit at hand 3 (WWL) and even with flat betting on hands 2, 4 & 5. At hand 6 & 7 your ahead one unit. I suspect one on the main reasons your ahead overall is the quit point of 4 losses. That quit point plus only being ½ unit behind flat betting at only one hand in the series and even at the rest reduces the risk while giving the potential for upside on hands 8 & 9. Thus one of the main keys to progression success may be a good quit point and low risk in the early stages of any series. 2003-05-30 10:49:47
Sage Steve, I’m not completely down on progressions, just looking for the best one. To help in the search, I’m trying to find a way to calculate the win/loss results of the different progressions. I agree with you playing for fun is the best goal. So long as the progression does not lose more than it wins, it will add to the excitement. I didn’t consider the DD and BJ hands, they will make quite a difference. I play at an Indian Casino with four decks in a CSM. Thus card counting is not an option. After reading some on the negative comments about card counting on this site, I would not want to card count anyway. Therefore, I want to find the progression with the least risk in the early hands. I read the Dahl book and have the Thomason book on order. Thus I’m very interested in anyone’s comments on betting systems. 2003-05-30 10:47:53
Sage Ron T Thanks for the input, looking forward to your results. I’m also working on my BJ math. I note that Grifter had different numbers, Grifter, how do you calculate the number of win/loss hands? 2003-05-30 10:46:48
