london player john pipas;if you are just learning the game why don't you just flat play until you really get the feel of the game, using the martingale system when you are winning or losing will eventually wipe you out.why don't you try the dahl system that sld007 is talking about as it seems more realistic to play that way.good luck. 2003-03-27 16:31:08
john pipas midnight: o.k. if martingale is so bad does reverse martingale make better sense? i am just learning BJ and of the opinion now that i know the rules that how i bet is the key to making or losing money( not excluding luck of course). thank you in advance. peace. john 2003-03-27 16:20:58
Midnite Bad Players- I can see both sides of the coin. No, bad players do not effect if you will win or not. Yes, they can be aggravating. As you get more seasoned, you will see that it "bothers" you, less and less. While it is true that "most" players, playing at the higher limits, are better players. I have seen some terrible, high stakes players. More Dollars than Sense, I guess. Bad Player Scenario** You have a 20. Both the dealer and the guy at third base have a 14. There are only two cards in the shoe. One is a 7 and one is a 10. Do you want the guy on third to Hit or Stand ? Bottom line is, it makes no difference. Half the time he would save the table, if he hit and half the time, he would cost the table. Here is where the ol' selective memory kicks in. You remember the times that is cost the table, more than you do the times, it saved the table.... 2003-03-27 15:59:07
sld007 Tampa Tony - Gus is just like the rest of us --he forgets the wins and remembers only the losses! I too will get up when I see someone e.g. split tens, double on a hard 14, hit a hard 17 or hit a hard 12 against the dealer's 6 (all of which I have seen and more); however, I agree with you tampa Tony that IN THEORY bad players should not AFFECT the game. Having said that, let me also say that they (i) piss me off, which (ii) puts me in a bad mood and (iii) distracts me from my game which (iv) could potentially cause me to make a mistake elsewhere. I would much rather play with good players--I don't have to watch them and it's just more fun!! 2003-03-27 14:45:59
Tampa Tony Gus I am intrigued. How does a player doing stupid things at a blackjack table affect your game. I can understand if you say it is not as much fun but do you believe it affects how much you will win or lose and if so how? 2003-03-27 13:55:41
london player chemist;only on sunday afternoons if it is raining 2003-03-27 13:21:02
chemist Should I double down if the dealer shows and ace and I have six and a black cat just walked under a ladder through the shards of a broken mirror? 2003-03-27 12:23:19
Gus Bad players DO effect my game.I will not stay at a table with a bad player. Thus I have found that the better players do not play the low limit tables. I don't play where the limit is less than $25 and will usually play $100 tables. The players are less likely to make stupid plays amd are more likey to be "Team Players". Players that regularly stand on a 14, 15, or 16 with the dealer showing 10 can ruin the Karma of the whole table. This may not be scientific but when I play, I want every advantage. 2003-03-27 04:24:34
london player they do ,and casinos love bad players 2003-03-26 10:50:00
TampaTont bad players do NOT effect the game 2003-03-26 10:45:54
london player STEVE; do you earn a good living from playing blackjack without counting,i do agree with you about counting, for instance, if you have been counting cards watching all of those low and high cards come out of the shoe and you know roughly which cards are left it still doesn't mean that the cards that you are dealt are going win you anything.stick to good money management and keep away from tables with bad players.before most of you tell me that bad players don't affect the overall outcome of the game YOU ARE MAD . 2003-03-26 10:43:43
steve o I don't want to be confused with "steve". There is no doubt there are Casinos that cheat but for the most part they don't because they don't have to. Over the long haul even a skillful player is going to lose. If you keep it within the context of being a game and know when to take your winnings or Losses and go it can be fun. You can not make a living at it anymore than you can make a living at most recreations you may enjoy but like those other recreations you can have a good time. 2003-03-26 02:18:58
Midnite john pipas- All you really need to know about the Martingale system is, to NEVER play it. It is a sure loser. Here is how it works... We will say that you find a $5 game, that has a $5 to $5,000 limit. You bet $5 and Double your bet Every time you lose. (1) 5 (2) 10 (3) 20 (4) 40 (5) 80 (6) 160 (7) 320 (8) 640 (9) 1280 (10) 2560 (11) 5120 ** Oh, Oh, you are over the limit, but the house says go ahead and make the bet. If you lose it you are down $10,235, IF you win it you MADE $5. You "will" have lots of small wins with it, BUT they will all be wiped out, (and more) when you hit the inevltable long losing streak. 2003-03-26 01:54:54
Midnite bjcanada- Hard question. I suppose the Grind or Dahl's, to start with. No, Don't even try and count a CSM. Most counters don't even split 10's, it draws too much "heat". Just be happy with a TWENTY and play the Next hand. Years ago, when there were still some deeply dealt single deck game around, splitting 10's with a High count, was done by some of the better players. BUT, they soon found out the pit was watching for moves like that and it might just get you kicked out. So, it wasn't even worth it back then..... 2003-03-26 01:43:21
bjcanada midnite....if you had one method of counting to learn, what method would you suggest...can counting be successful with the new continueous shuffle machines?? also what is your thoughts on splitting 10's to dealer 3,4,5,??i know basic strategy says stand ,,but if the count is favorable....why wouldnt you??thanx for the input...this is a great site!!! 2003-03-25 23:49:11
Gus My wife & I travel to Vegas 3-4 times a year. We both play BJ from the time we get upto til the time we go to bed. I spend many hours practicing with hit or stand, and always do well. Thank you for this very helpful site. 2003-03-25 19:01:08
steve Hello I am a professional Blackjack player I have played Blackjack in casinos all around the US for the past 10 years including Indian casinos, Mississippi River Boat casinos and just about every casino in Las Vegas, NV. I have spent near 60,000 hours studying, analyzing and playing Blackjack. I started out playing basic strategy like most and worked my way up through amateur card-counting strategies to expert and professional level card-counting strategies. There is a sad truth which needs to be told. Casinos cheat at there own game of Blackjack regardless of a players skill level! This cheating has cost me and many others thousands of hours worth of time which the casinos could never replace or repay. I have been harassed, physically ruffed up and my life has been and is at threat from some of the biggest names in the casino industry. I am not writing this to get even with the casinos because that will never happen. I am writing this to forewarn all innocent young and old. Please think twice before you consider getting seriously involved in playing Blackjack. If you're already seriously involved please reconsider what you read here. Please don't throw your life away. It's all a lie! Card counting has been proven time and time again by many mathematicians but in real world casinos it's just a fairy tale. Authors of card-counting books know this. Many hide behind the walls of their homes and businesses and hustle off Blackjack books to the innocent. But what most did not include with the price of the book is the truth! Please do not believe these shills who you see all over the Internet telling you any different! 2003-03-25 16:45:48
