london player-Here are the results of my last 10 sessions using the Dahl system at the $50 level for about 4.5 to 5.0 hours each time: -500, -1200, +1400, +1100, -300, even, +800, +300, even, -700. Looks like I do win it averages about $900, when I do lose it averages about -$666 and if you average my last 10 sessions it comes to + 900 total so about +90 avg each time. |

sld007;could you please tell me what is the average amount that you win by playing the dahl method, you don't need to tell me in dollars, just units would be appreciated, and how long is your average playing time to win that amount. many thanks. |

I calculated my own answer : its 33%! BUT i guess one needs to walk if the dealer seems to exceed this # repeatedly. ? yes/no. I'm still trying to make some sense of this game! thanks. peace. |

HI, MATH QUESTION: dealer shows 10 - what are the expected times that he will have another 10 in the hole ;16/48(aces excluded)= 33% or 16/32(remaining non 10 cards)= 50% of the time. It seems when i've watched the odds are more 50% or greater. that's pretty awful. thanks in advance. peace. |

I play basic strategy, no exceptions, with Dahl-style progressive betting, starting at $10 working up to $25 before going back. Like most people I'm skeptical of spliting 8s against a dealer 10 showing, but that's what BS says so i do it like a trained monkey. But .... here's my suspicion. Yeah, the computer says in the long run you are betting off splitting 8s. But that's in flat betting. You are still going to lose more than you win. So if in a progessive betting situation, say I'm at the $25 bet when the dreaded 8s appear, wouldn't it be better to just hit it and cut your losses (bigger bet than normal)? Food for thought |

Tampa Tony- I did not say that my opinion was scientific. Sometimes a bad decision by a bad player will work and sometimes not. But a bad player will slow down the flow of the table as the dealer and/or better players try to educate him/her. It is distracting and annoying. As I said, "I look for every advantage". I enjoy playing BJ but I am very competative and I play to win! |

John,
The difference is that automatic shufflers shuffle the deck about 4 or 6 times and then the cards are dealt regular. With a csm the cards are put back in after each hand so all decks are always in the machine. |

Yesterday I went to the local casino and won for the 4th time out of 5 using basic strategy and progressive betting. Now I feel ready to up my bets to the $10 range. With a $400 bankroll, at what down point would you-all consider a point of no return. If your down, say $200 or $300 should you just walk (or run) away and regroup for another day. At $5 levels when down $60 or so I find another table. I would take that to mean $120 at a $10 level. But I'm not sure how long to wait out a bad stretch....Shredder |

with an excellent site like this one and more people studying basic strategy and card counting as well, the c.s.m. is the casinos weapon against the educated players.
they change the rules to keep your money,i'll stick to the hand dealt games if there will be any left any where.regards to Midnite!thanx. |

Hi, played BJ last nite at a casino w/ 8deck csm & lost @ all different tables - dealers had far more than the 40% 10 in hole when 10 showing. went to hand shuffle and won a little when before i had been killed. confirmed by other players AND sat next to a former dealer who said she did not like dealing w/ csm because players were not as happy since lost more. does this make sense to anyone out there? thanks in advance. peace. |

Walt- That is their biggest edge, but they have several. Free booze, CSM, deeply cut decks and bad rules, to name a few. Not to mention players that don't have a clue. Standing with A-5 and splitting 5-5 & 10's, etc. |

I'm New to the game,
What is it that gives the Casino (dealer) the edge?
Is it that the dealer wins if you both break?

golden knight- way back when I got married the games that I was thinking about didn't have anything to do with "cards". As a rule, the BJ on the cruise ships, leave a lot to be desired. Higher limits, with worse rules. But they may have gotten better, since I went on one. You will just have to see. As for basic betting strategies, Dahl's method would be as good as any and better than most. It would keep you in the game and give you a "shot" at a good win. Still think you should spend your time, with the little woman. Plenty of time for BJ latter, just enjoy the cruise and good luck. |

I just found this site while looking for some basic BJ strategy, and have found it extremely helpful in reducing stupid mistakes. I have only played a couple of times (in real life)and really enjoyed the game, it just bugged me knowing that I was not playing properly. Do you guys have any very basic betting stratagies for a newbie? Also, I'll be taking a cruise to the islands next month for my honeymoon, is there anything I should know about playing on cruiselines, or is it pretty much the same as casinos. Thanks in advance! |
