pshea: New card shoes have nothing to do with you losing. You just had some bad luck. Try another excuse. |

sld007-thanks for the heads-up, not counting yet, still learning. Foxwoods uses an 8 deck shoe so I gave up on it rather quickly today and stuck to basic strategy.
BTW, First shoe killed me, dealer must have gotten 21 no less than 10 times (through hits and BJ), I'm not kidding. It was a fresh shoe, new decks, he laid them all out right in front of me. I will NEVER play a shoe of new cards again. |

Learning the game here. What is the advantage or disadvantage with staying on a soft 17 or hitting it for the house?

pshea - I am told that Mohegan Sun got very tough with counters a few years back by only having 60% penetration, so
watch out if you count. |

Just got back from Foxwoods, came out ahead but not by much, still smiling.
I'm hitting Mohegan Sun this weekend, anyone ever been there? If so, what are the table limits on a Friday night?
Thanks

Nick- If you are refering to my post below, I will try to explain. For a non counter, always splits the eights. For a counter, there are indexes that he will use, to tell him when "not" to split the eights. |

No offense but your confusing. Your game contradicts itself. |

pshea-When splitting 8-8 against the dealers 10, you will lose more than you will win. So "why" do it ? Because you will "lose less" than if you do not split them. As you get more into counting, you will see there are times when, you do NOT split them. The general rule of always splitting Ace's and eight's, is almost always right. Good Luck at the Foxwoods. |

Thanks Midnite, heading to Foxwoods in the morning. Still a novice at the hi-lo and will try and count but not play by it, yet. I will however follow your advice on q's 2 and 3. |

pshea-(1) There is a running count and a true count. To get the true coun, devide the running count into the number of decks left to be played. A +2 with 4 decks to be played is a +.05, a +4 with four decks left in the shoe, is really a +1. (2) Yes (3) Surrender both a 10-6 & 9-7 versus a dealers 9-10 or Ace. Surrender a 10-5 & 9-6 versus dealers 10 or Ace. Slightly different for single deck. But you do not surrender against the 7. |

question stategy tabls show split all A A aginst all delers cards. but it shows dont double on 11 such as 5&6 aginst deales ace. these are the same # and you would be doubling your bet on both hands geting only one card on each. why not doulble on 5&6 aginst dealers A |

Three questions:
1. I am getting familiar with the hilo counting system. In a 6 deck shute when should I begin raising my bet according to the count? According to what I've learned as soon as the count is in my favor (+2) I should raise my bet. Is this a sound stragety? Or do you wait until the dealer is towards the middle or end of the deck?
2. Should I always split 8's? I was playing the other night and and split my 8's against the dealer's 10. The guy sitting next to me who seemed to know what he was doing and winning often said to never split 8's against a 9 or 10.
3. Is surrendering on a hard 15 or 16 against a dealers 7 or better showing advisable?
Thanks in advance, love the site.

Would like some comments on Dahl's Progession and SLD007 variation on this. So far I have only played about 750 hands playing Dahl and you CAN get past the 4th level(SLD007 doesn't go beyond this level) with a BJ and/or a DD. Going past this level the risk seems greater than the reward. Are there any progression reccomendations out there for a low stakes player like me?
Midnite-I'll miss you by a week. Would have liked too see you play. Thanks to you and everybody else for your comments. |

mike - any knowledge is good. These are some of these books around.
However, basic strategy, knowing how to bet (i.e. progresiively) and knowing when to
get out are the 3 keys. I can't tell you
how many times I have seen guys up-alot-only to give it all back!
Don't drink and don't think that
you have the midas touch. Make "some" eat some free food get
a free room and go home at the end of your
shift alive (to quote Sean Connery in The
Untouchables) with MORE money than you
came with and---YOU ARE A WINNER--
in my book. Let the casinos make their $$$
on the morons who get drunk and give
it all back. |

sld007 you are the man, any expert advise on perhaps what I should or can take away from these books, besides the point that I made the authors richer. |

Dave- the Flamingo does have about 4 tables of single deck and paying 6/5 on blkjks. That perhaps is not what you are looking for, but each to their own. There are few "local" houses around that have super fun blkjak. Some say it's the most exciting way to play a single deck game. I have been told some will pay 3-1 on a double diamond blkjak, perhaps ask a local or just pick up the yellow pages and start calling around. The drawback is you will need transportation to reach these houses, for I look a few address up on a city map. They were not to close to the "strip". I hope you win a bundle, just picked up some good reading material today. The Worlds Greatest Blackjack Book, Get The Edge at BLAKJAK, and Beat The Dealer. I would like to become a bit more advanced at the game, for another trip is in the making for perhaps June. O well you win some and you loose some, for if we won them all there would be no Vegas. |
