Brett Hi, I’m 23 going on 16, so people would say. However, other than looking real young I’ve been playing BJ since I was 18 in Wisconsin. That is, until the law raised the age limit to 21. At that point I had a one year hiatus. I feel I’m quite knowledgeable about the game, much more than the average Joe sitting next to me at the tables. This past Friday night I was playing BJ on the Sterling River casino boat in Cape Canaveral Florida. Being in school to become an airline pilot I only brought $30.00 along. The first table I sat at, I was right between 3 middle aged ladies. Oh my, what a time that was. All I could hear was bad advice. For example I had a 5,6 with the dealer showing an Ace. So of course I hit, rather than double down. By the way, this is a multiple deck game (6 decks). The ladies all said you should to double down. I said, “no, not against an Ace”. Then they came back saying “you should always double with an 11”. In this one instance it would have been to my advantage, because my hit landed me a 21. However in the long run, I stand to win more or lose less. My highlight for the night was when I was dealt a pair of 7’s against the dealers up 3. I split the sevens, doubled on one hand, split the second which I then hit to 20, split the third hand which I doubled, and hit the last hand to 18. When the dust cleared I had all my $30.00 riding on one hand. Luckily for me, the dealer so kindly busted. When I left the table 15 minutes later, I was up $34.50 double of what I came there with. Also, when I left the ladies said, “You’re leaving already”. I said a simple “Yup”, and headed off to the free food and drinks. Here’s a rule I’ve learned, a lot of people have advice to offer and even if the whole table’s against you, stick to basic strategy and watch everyone else’s chip dwindle. I know there are other advanced strategies such as card counting in which you will deviate from basic strategy. But for now I haven’t mastered that well enough to put into play. I’ve got much more to say, but I’ll stop here for the day. Brett W. 2003-02-23 11:10:25
Midnite Gambler blue chip- I mean this in a nice way, but you have much to learn. There are "several" things needed to be a winning player. Disipline for one. You say without strategy and money management there is "no chance of winning" There is ALWAYS a "chance" of winning, slim as it may be. I have seen players that were very bad and still won. I am talking about players that stand with an Ace and 5 and double 6-2 when the dealer has an Ace up. Short term they "can" win. Of course the longer they play that way, the less likely it becomes they "will" win. 2003-02-23 06:21:44
blue chip I have been playing bj 6 months. I have read A lot of books on basic stratigy and money manegment. I think both are impotant in wining at bj.I think one with out the other you have no chance of winning. I think strategy is 40% of winning and moey manegment is 60. I think this site is the most informitive on the game of bj. I would like response from anybody on my 40- 60% theory 2003-02-22 12:46:42

Ian London Just to let you guys know that for the first time since discovering this board I actually had enough spare cash to try out BJ (on-line). I opened up with £300 (about US $450) and managed to work up my winnings to £1,125 (about $1,680?) before quitting. I know that to some of you big gamblers this may be small change, but to me this is a very big win. I put down my win to the fact that I've taken note of some of the messages on this board, so to you people I thank you. But my main thanks goes to the administrator of this board without whom I wouldn't have known about basic strategy. Thank you all! 2003-02-18 11:24:14
