McFlaherty - Stanford Wong's "Professional Blackjack" is probably the best 'buy for the dollar'. About $15 from Amazon. |

gracias -- i've enjoyed this site for several weeks -- of late have been trying to add a counting system to basic strategy and have come across this site and its interesting cast of characters. very informative and sometimes entertaining. developed my own simple ten count system (to help with buying insurance) and four & five count systems (to help with hit/stand decisions on fifteen and sixteen against "marginal" dealer up cards -- but these are clumsy and have not been very helpful -- except to the bottom lines of certain aspirin manufacturers -- so am now looking to learn a real system -- will start with hi-lo and afterwards will perhaps take a hard look at wong's halves if i can nail the hi-lo. i play a little homemade progression that climbs fairly aggressively but has several pullback valves to offset financial risk when my bet gets to high unit levels. blah blah blah. really i'm just another decent mid-level player looking to pick up a few pointers. most of my involvement on this board will be passive, i'm afraid, but i certainly always enjoy checking in with the experts here. |

Sorry el hombre, I read it wrong. You are right, it is to the players DISadvantage, if the casino hits the soft 17. |

midnite -- the distinction you make is lost on my primitive caveman mind. I wrote "it is to the player's disadvantage when the house hits soft 17." You responded "it is the player's advantage when the house does not hit the soft 17." i think both statements are equivalent. is this some eclectic blackjack philosophy you're imparting or am i just so twisted up in my underpants that i can't see the distinction? what is it that i have backwards? |

Sorry el hombre, but you have that backwards. It is to the players advantage when the casino does NOT hit, the soft 17. |

when i said everybody hits soft seventeens, i meant to refer to all the local casinos in sd -- not necessarily the playing public. i believe it is to the player's disadvantage when the house hits their soft seventeens. will attempt to be clearer / better informed in any future postings. |

Bug - Sorry, forgot the second part. The "ultimate" source for the data you want is CBJN. You can access it through BJ21.com. It gives the odds/rules for ABOUT every casino in the US. Cost is $80 per year, but worth every penny if you are a "travelin', ramblin', gamblin' man." |

Bug....What is your casino? I'll give you your answer (it is probably about -0.33%) |

el hombre, you said that most hit soft 17, sounding like you are discouraging this... I hope you're not, right? Cuz you're supposed to ALWAYS hit or double soft 17, since the only way to beat the dealer with that hand is for the dealer to bust!!
...Anyway, so can it be assumed that playing with 6D/Dealer stands all 17's, double on everything, replitting pairs allowed up to 4 times, no surrender gives house odds of .33% if perfect BS is played? I want to know just how much an advantage the casino where I play has... (in Lousiana)... also, is there a site where I can calculate the house odds on any given set of rule parameters?
midnite, nice joke, but i dont get the "p.s." ^_^ |

el hombre trieste - no criticsm, just a small clarification. I heard the same story about the Mirage a year ago, still hasn't happened (but it might). As for sister properties (1) TI went to H17 about 5/6 years ago when Wynn still owned it and the "sisters" didn't change. (2) RIO is not one of the sister companies. |

GAMBLING JOKE : I was in the casino and I see this sign that says, If you have a gambling problem, call 1-800-Gambler. So I called them and say, I have an Ace and a six, the dealer has a seven. What should I do ? p.s. I always thought the art of ignoring, was a male trait. (g) |
