last time i was at the mirage a dealer told me that they'd be changing the house rules to H17 in the "near future" but he wouldn't say exactly when -- i would imagine the sister properties' rules would change at the same time (treasure island; mgm; rio). |

desert dog -- the mirage has a good after hours pit (between 1AM & 6AM) near the elevators -- tables are $25 + but you pretty much are playing w knowledgable players -- many of them are locals / regulars who at a minimum play sound basic strategy. Most of the yahoos are gone by this time and at this betting level. they've been quite generous with me in the past in terms of comps as well. i'm from sd and there are a couple of nice casinos here, though everybody in town hits soft seventeens. harrah's rincon is about an hour north of downtown; barona valley ranch is about forty minutes east. excellent golf at barona as well. |

dog - Caesar's has always been my favorite. Compared to Rio, Hard Rock etc. it's like a church...nothin but serious BJ players, not like the other places where most guys just go to get laid, etc. Also, great people watching on Saturday nights in the main casino...kinda like Goodfellas meets Victoria's Secret. |

Thanks, Grifter! Caesar's it'll be - same comp card as Paris. The "real" desert dog, my labrador retriever, is not happy about the suitcases -- knows it means a few days stuck here with boring pet sitter -- no run at 6 am. |

Dawg - Have a great trip. Caesar's, Mirage, MGM, Mandalay Bay, and the RIO all have 6D, S17. |

Heading off for vacation, a few days first to escape this 116 degree Phoenix heat by going to San Diego, then diving right back in to the heat in Vegas. (Think the Griswold family in National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation.) I normally play at Paris and Bally's -- and may try Bellagio because they still have S17 -- but does anybody have other favorites, on the strip or off? |

The Grand in Tunica is the only house which retains S17 on the 6 deck game, making it a .33 house advantage. |

McFlaherty - If you can't find what you need, let me know and I can run you a set and send them, BUT I would strongly recommend you buy the book. (about $20 if I remember right) |

Paulie57 – You asked where the 6D, H17 game is common. Unfortunately, it has become the predominant game where the vast majority of casinos in the US are located, GENERALLY speaking (there will be exceptions), 6D, H17 is played at the following, (1) 80% of LV, (2) Reno, (3) Laughlin, (4) Tahoe, (5) Tunica, MS, (6) Most Midwest Indian Reservations…… 6D, S17 is still the “main game” in (1) Louisiana, and (2) Mississippi, except Tunica. |

I found a site that goes into pretty deep detail with high low counting. (http://www.goodcasinos.net/GameMasterClassics1.html) i believe tables start at lesson 14 or so. |

Grifter - where would I go to get the right tables for the hi-low system? Would I have to buy a book, or is there somewhere else I could get them from? |

Doc, Grifter, et al... I live in the NE, and Foxwoods / Mohegan Sun have Late Surrender and STAND soft 17 rules last time I visited (less than 6 months ago). I thought I had it bad here, with 6&8 decks very much, if not exatly as described on the site. For play in this neck of the woods the Sun Casino has better play potential according to the strategy presented at ace-five.com The author does state, "STAND on Soft 17", and "Late Surrender OK". I agree with your informal analysis that a "HIT Soft 17" rule is quite bad for the A/5 system in bigger shoes. Nonetheless, the old cliche about a half-loaf being better than none seems fitting. The 1-12 and 1-16 spreads hardly appear worthwhile in such an instance. Just curious to the region of the USA where the game you mention (6D HS17 NoLS) is... AC,NJ... LV... Indian Casinos? -- paulie57 |
