okohiored=for the record-do you think martindale is a viable strategy? seems like a lot of risk for a minimal return. |

Alright heres my strategy use close to martingale doubling playing at 10.00 table to get comped than play 5 game martingal 10-20-40-80 -150 thats equals 300.00. If I lose 5 in a row odds of 38-1 by midnight than will play 5 games of 100.00 each.than take a break regardless win or lose and get a beer. Only 800 if I lose 10 in a row.Wait till next day if lose over 500 in series. I intend to reliougsly stick to this,Of course I will double or split if opportunity comes,Somehow I think martingale has some merit if you dont go to deepand can avoid the 38-1 or else make it up in the next 5 hands at 100.00 each. I have played martingale before but went too deep.Once at Sams Town had to bet 1500.00 and than caught 2 aces. Was lucky I had another 1500 in poclet barely to cover split. End result was won one and lost other.Next hand I did win a straight 1500 bet.Anyway unless someone changes my mind will try this next week |

Deer Dog Deluxe, sorry I guess I should be more liberated in my thinking, even more impressive with some of your scores on hitorstand. Desert Dog, I'm a people MD, but I have a wierd specialty, think CSI without all the good looking blondes. Midnite, thanks I'm trying, got a long ways to go. I think the System Engine is helpful, I don't think it incorporates doubles, splits and BJ %s, but it convinced me about the martingale, I cant afford to risk my whole buy in for one unit and it seems like 20 unit bets are not that uncommon. Desert Dog, I thought the comments on progressions was interesting too, I've heard several different takes on 'streaks' in BJ, some folks say if you don't count you have to depend on BJ to be a streak game, others say that BJ being a streak game is total superstition. To be fair the two progressions on A-10 are very aggresive compared to Dahl/Thomason. Choosing a specfic way of play (if you are not counting) is what I meant by 'empirical' ability; besides luck, I have to believe that skill in observation, experiance, patience, consistancy and discipline have to have some effect on your game and allow some people to improve on just the house advantage that you have if you just play Basic Strategy flat betting. I'm not convinced yet that at a HA of less than -.4 you can't do things to get it to the + side. I'm not there yet, or even near it, thats why its also just as important to enjoy the entertainment value of the casinos, if you don't dig that you are barking up the wrong tree. |

Michigan Dave- I did the same thing and you do have to watch what the high bet was..... I showed the Grind on top, but it did have some big bets, but not nearly as high as you had. I would like to see what the different methods would do with a $200 or $500 loss limit. |

McFlaherty- You are welcome. High Low is a good choice. Forget about the side count of Ace's, for now. All it will do is, mess up your melon. You will have enough to do just getting the count right. Later when you can count without thinking about it, then you can add the side count of Ace's and the index's. |

Oh yeah, I forgot... I've heard about keeping an ace side count. Do you think that the added difficulty is worth the effort? |

Midnite - thanks for the feedback about the different counting systems you gave me a while back. I think I'll see if I can get a hold of the High Low system... it seems to be fairly simple and yet strong. Am I right to assume that the more cards you keep track of (those that do not have a value of 0) the more powerful the system is? Thanks again. |

Desert Dog-I think your right. The ace-ten is probably getting more hits than ever. I ran four 500 hand simulations comparing martingale etal and although the martingale system came out ahead of the others, in one instance the bet was 8192 units! So until I can afford to lose $50,000 at a $5 table, I'll stick with Dahl or Thomason. |

Doc, I'm going out on a limb here -- your MD degree is not in veterinary medicine, is it :) ? That ace-ten.com site you suggested is something else. I've been looking all over for outcome simulations using various betting strategies. I had tried doing it myself with an excel spreadsheet, but couldn't. What's really surprising is how ace-ten.com seems to endorse Martingale and puts down positive progression strategies. It points out that while a positive progression strategy may magnify wins and minimize losses if there are a lot of streaks, if you have mostly alternating wins and losses, that means you're winning on the 1's and losing on the 2's. |

hey, D: like you, i am a "girl" and appreciate what that can sometimes mean at the bj table: so great you had that snappy answer at the ready! (and that you were actually ahead: so often the skeptics are actually sporting larger stacks of chips)! also, am finding that the more trips i make to the casino, and the more wide awake i am while playing, the better i am able to pay attention to all the details of the game, including those details of what's coming off the deck that Midnite mentions. |

Doc: what a nice offer, but alas, my name is more about my status as a dog than it is truly about deer. The closest I usually get to blood is occasionally, RARELY cutting up a chicken. Still maybe we can all meet up sometime for a big hitorstand bj marathon somewhere or t'other. |

bjcanada -- I just checked a website for Vancouver casinos and it says: "All Casino locations are open seven days a week 10am - 4pm". Is this a typo?!? If it isn't, then when you say the government co-sponsors them, hey no kidding! Those are civil service hours! I also see no alcohol allowed or served. Not that I drink while playing blackjack but I don't really mind if others do. But I guess nobody's drinking between 10am and 4pm anyway.
