McFlaherty Can somebody give me some examples of different counting systems? I've been working on counting but I don't know what system to use. 2003-06-29 22:13:04
Desert Dog Thanks for the info, Doc. That's an interesting site. The rules database bears out what Midnite says about H17, but it also shows some S17 still available on the Las Vegas strip. The green highlighting of places with House Advantage of 0.19 or less is interesting. Aside from pitch games (1-2 decks) the only multidecks at 0.19 are the CSM's with an S17 rule. No other multideck no matter how favorable the rules has a House Adv this low. From the negative comments I've seen about CSM's, that's surprising. It'll be worth crossing the strip to the Bellagio from where I'll be staying at the Paris, later part of July. 2003-06-29 16:47:22
Midnite Doc- Nice post's. Casino's that H 17 are almost the norm, now days. 2003-06-29 15:48:11
BuGhOu§eMASTER crackerjacky - I appreciate your attempted answer about my query & I think you are right... could someone else confirm on that please? Scroll down to my first length post if you're confused on what I'm talking about. 2003-06-29 13:40:05
Doc Desert Dog, go to www.customstrategycards.com and follow the links to Tunica, they have the rules for all the houses in Tunica. In fact they have the updated rules for most all casinos in the country. No surrender in Tunica, CSMs are there but rare, worst rule is H17 on all 6 deck shoes, except The Grand where its S17, so I'll play shoe games there then go to Ballys and Fitzgeralds because both places offer pitch games with $5 limits. 2003-06-29 13:36:37
Doc What is a STRONG PLAYER? One who knows basic strategy and plays it perfectly, who is smart with his bank roll, who is disciplined and systematic with his play, who know enough about the game to only play the best games and by pass the bad rules even if it means not playing, who plays some sort of carefully thought out progression because progressions, with the factor of varience, give you a chance to win big and winning a nice pot every now and then makes gambling fun, who takes advantage of comps, who has fun because he knows he is applying skill to give himself the best advantage against the house in an entertainment oriented casino experience. 2003-06-29 13:18:30
Doc Michigan Dave, counters are 'advantage players' they expore systems that have an advantage over the house. They are newtonians, grounded in science, who think it is a waste of time to think about the manipulation of a negative expectation game since any manipulation of a losing system still results in a loss. If you aren't a counter you have to accept you are playing a negative expectation game, and we all do (or should), so our goal should be to make yourself into a STRONG player instead, and to do that we need to become good empiricists, that is our conclusions, while grounded in science, our more based on observation of the real world, this is an art. This is not a valid way of finding scientific truth according to the counters but I think they are wrong based on the fact that 99% of counters, in the real world, are losers too (thier dirty little secret), showing me that they have an unrealistic view of the world. 2003-06-29 13:04:54
Desert Dog bjcanada, what casino pays 3-2 for three 7's? I haven't seen it in Arizona, Connecticut or Nevada. Maybe it's a Canadian thing to lure those ignorant players Michigan Dave describes across the river to Casino Windsor. It also sounds like a ploy to discourage splitting two sevens. As for counting, clearly don't bother if it's a continuous shuffle machine. Cards that have just been played get loaded back in to a CSM. If it's an automated shuffler, but then played from a shoe, then that's no different than manual shuffling other than the time saved, and counting isn't futile. Just damn hard, and still no guarantee. And to my way of thinking not worth the headache. 2003-06-29 11:59:14
Midnite Michigan Dave- Math. When a counter has a plus count, he has a small mathmatic advantage. The only way to know the composition of the unplayed cards, is to count cards. Both can win and both can lose. Due to the large bankroll, time needed to learn (with the index's) and the huge swings, counting is not for many players. In days past, it was a very good way to win.(deeply dealt single deck) It still can win in todays game, but it is much tougher. Counter's tend to be a hard headed lot and think that is the Only way to win. It isn't. It is just a tool, like BS is a tool. The more tools you have, the easier the job. 2003-06-29 10:32:42
Mike BS tables, lol 2003-06-29 10:24:04
Michigan Dave Can anyone out there explain why card counters dis all progression systems? Are they correct or do they want to sell more books? 2003-06-29 09:23:21
Midnite I have played BJ all over. From Reno to the Bahamas. River boats to cruse ships. Indian Casino's in several states and I can tell you that players are pretty much the same everywhere, Vegas included. 2003-06-29 07:36:56
dd deluxe Michigan Dave: wow: and here I'd persuaded myself that central MI was some sort of BS heaven where every night all during the long cold winter, folks studied their BS tables! Another fantasy bites the dust... 2003-06-29 06:41:53
Michigan Dave Just read the posting rules on Stanford Wong's website and Bootleggers sugestions regarding posting and I would like to apologize if I have offended anybody with any of my posts on this site. IMHO I think these rules/suggestions can apply to this site too so we can intelligently discuss this game we like so much and ignore the posts that are personal of nature. 2003-06-29 05:40:03
crackerjacky "I do not recommend you use this sytem in a six-deck game but if you do, be aware that a large spread is needed to make a consistent profit (1-16 at least) or you must leave the table frequently".(from Bug). Bug, I THINK I know what he means by this. I buy in each time for $300. If I am up, $200, I leave the table & start over and yes, this must be done "frequently". For past couple of days I have "practiced" this online & kept careful records. The most I was up was $3,500. The Most I was "down" at any one point was $770.00. 16 times my $25 bet is only $400 (spread?). But based upon my experience, I would would say you need 32 times, or about $800. to hang in there before the cards turn. I'm a relative "newbie", so don't know if this makes sense or not. I DO KNOW that it takes a LOT of discipline to leave when you are only about $200 up, "greed" being a factor to consider in every gambler's heart. 2003-06-29 05:15:15
london player desert dog; £5 chips are red, some casinos also have £10 chips (very rare) blue 2003-06-29 03:37:07
Michigan Dave Deer Dog Deluxe-My home base is Mount Pleasant and I have found the play different than what you saw. They play just as ignorant as any place else. When I play, I put my BS card in front of me (still don't trust my memory on a couple of soft DD)and take a couple of extra of BS strategy cards with me in case I am asked "Where do you get one of those? ". I am a rookie like you and I feel the need to spead the word about BS because 1.-being one of those morons is still fresh in my mind. 2-BS is easy to learn. 3-These poor bastards just don't know about BS .4-The casinos make enough money off the real morons playing the slots, video poker and other table games. The down side to this is once there are more of us, they will change the rules on us again. 2003-06-29 02:29:29
