itonater - Who was it that said "no good deed goes unpunished." Dude, look, you just have to be satisfied that you are indeed doing the right thing by proper play, and, in the LONG RUN, you have a much greater CHANCE of winning this way than being a moron. Of course, we would like to win every hand...but you can't, you don't and you won't. That's why they call it gambling. This is why I love BJ and hate craps. You have no control in craps, whereas in BJ you have more control than virtually any other table game. I know you may not believe this, but I would rather lose (a little!) and play correctly then win and just "get lucky." That's how much I love this game! |

Hit or Stand? I think I'll stand. I've lost another 300 at this infernal game. It's infuriating to see other players make stupid plays and make money, while I play correctly and lose out. Luckily, I made 150 back in craps. I think I may just convert to that game, it's much more exciting. |

Downtown. Horseshoe is good and El Cortez is low limit. Just be carefull around the El Cortez after midnight as it is away from Freemont street and the crowds. |

wizer- You could always rent a car and drive to Laughlin (about 90 miles from Vegas) Lots of $2 minimum BJ there. Still some low limit games in Vegas, but are getting harder to find. The limits also change. The bigger the crowd, the higher the limits. |

Gentle folk- I'm heading to Vegas in July and I'm a novice player, but learning a great deal from this site. Are there any casinos that have better odds and lower limits that I may go to rather than the strip. Never been real lucky there and limits are pretty high. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Slick,
DO NOT TAKE EVEN MONEY....EVER!!!!!!!
You will make more money in the long run if you do not take even money. I know it seems sometimes the dealer always has BJ when he shows that fatefull ace but hand in there you will prevail when your ace vs. his. |

Last night I was down $125 then, at a high point in my betting progression, I got 8's, split them, got another 8 on one and a double down on the other, won on everything and ended up even on the night. It wouldn't have happened if I had walked after four consecutive losses, and plenty of those and worse had occurred. Some dumb plays upstream earlier that night, but half helped and half hurt. Funny to watch though, like Austin Powers when he stood on 5. Can't believe the number of people who don't split 8's because they're scared of the dealer's ten. I made one deviation from basic strategy near the end -- I was dealt an 11 vs the dealer's ten. I was next to third base. Gut check told me "don't double", I didn't and sure enough I got a 2, hit again and got an 8. Dealer's down card was a 7, so my play didn't affect his outcome. Third base guy won too, so he had no cause for complaint. |

Thanks Doc. I do plan on going to Tunica again, before too long. Tunica reminded me of what Vegas USED to be like. |

Since there is another steve up I'll switch to Doc. Good trip report sld. I have to give the morons a break though, I was one not to long ago. Even this last weekend I was tired and waved what I thought was a 12 against a dealer 4, even waved it twice. The dealer being nice hit me anyway since I was waving over a ten. I looked at him in anger, he just smiled and motioned to the cards, then I counted them up and saw what I did. Everybody at the table was looking at me like I was a moron. |

Answer?? so the answer is
"As long as you play your own game, and play it smartly, you should be alright. People tend to remember the bonehead plays that made the dealer catch 21, and not the ones that cause the dealer to bust."
"I know that in the long run poor play should not make a difference"
The other payers do not affect me in the long run.
Otherwise the casinos would employ morons to improve their odds. |

The morons are part of the reason I play the casino blackjack. It's great entertainment. I've seen some pretty stupid plays in my short BJ career. Last time I went a guy stayed with a hard 5 against a 5! As long as you play your own game, and play it smartly, you should be alright. People tend to remember the bonehead plays that made the dealer catch 21, and not the ones that cause the dealer to bust. |
