Grifter The optimum game for me is double deck with only me and a good playing partner like Midnite at the table. With two people, you see more cards and you can easily control the tempo of the game. Having said that let me add that Midnite and I were supposed to play at "x" all weekend; however, since that rascal has now publicly stated he prefers "heads up" I guess I'll stay home 2003-05-13 06:25:36
Midnite Any time a new player or new dealer comes to the table, you should leave immediately. It is a mathemitical fact that, you will now lose. Just Kidd-n.... The fact that a new player or new dealer comes to the table, will have no overall effect. The only effect more players have is, you will get in less hands per hour, as 007 pointed out. I like heads up with the dealer. Many players don't. With the hours I play, I get one on one with the dealer, quite a bit. Many times, when I sit down at an empty table, more players will "jump in", before I can get colored up. Now sometimes the cigar trick will work. As a new player comes up to join you, pull out a cigar. You don't have to smoke it, just pull it out of your pocket. Many times they will look for a game elsewhere. 2003-05-13 05:56:11
crackerjacky I was sitting at a "full" table & all were winning. So, we all decided to take a "mass potty break" (some needing it more than others :))& all return at same time. This worked very well. Guess you could say we were a happy, compatible, optimum number. 2003-05-13 05:44:59
Grifter dd - Good advice from SLD. Sit out part of a shoe, take a potty break, fresh air break, whatever. As you said, it won't affect your rating, and it beats getting 'hammered' by a "bad" shoe.....Also, great answer about 'optimum' number of players. I will give my opinion after Midnite answers dd. 2003-05-13 04:16:00
sld007 dd - Obviously, the "optimum" number of players is whatever # you are winning with and similarly the same # could be the players you are "whining" with! However, with more players there are less hands to play before a "bad" shoe is over, also, if you are interested in comps are you are on a losing streak, just lay out the rest of the shoe. With many players there, the pit won't notice that you've laid out and you still get credit for being "there". Not a whole lot of satisfaction I admit, but you might as well get that "free" room or "free" $400 bottle of champagne, right? 2003-05-12 21:21:44
dd deluxe Hey, Midnite: another "myth" I hear people and a few dealers bandy about is that the cards at a particular table are "running for" a certain number of players. I've played 1-on-1 and won, been joined by a second player, and we both win, been joined by a third player, we all three win, etc. Regardless of how anybody plays. Natch the opposite can happen as well, everybody loses all day long regardless of the number of people in any shoe. But *is* there any chance that there's an optimum number of players at a bj table? 2003-05-12 20:56:19
Midnite A lot of players (and dealers) believe that a bad play can "mess up the cards". Do the cards have a sacred order ? Lets say you are at first base and the guy at third base has a 10-6. The dealer also has a 10-6 and there are only Two Cards left in the deck. They are a 5 and a K. Do you want the guy on third to hit ? Is the first card the 5 or the K ? It makes no difference, half the time he would draw the 5 and save you and half the time he would draw the K and cost you. Due to selective memery, we tend to remember the times that he cost us and Not the times he saved us, with a bad play. I do agree, it can be very aggravating. If it upsets you, move to another table. Play your hand, the best you can and let the "chips" fall where they may.... 2003-05-12 18:09:45
D PLAYED not slayed ( although sometimes.......) 2003-05-12 17:55:32
D Michigan Dave, what detroit casino do you prefer? I have alwayslayed in Canada, but the border wait has been too long lately. 2003-05-12 17:54:51
crackerjacky Thanks for your response, Grifter. And, I do respect whatever you have to say about the game. But, as you say, if he is splittin l0's, he is getting rid of a GOOD shoe just as fast as a 'bad' one, right? I know, I know...should not let it bother me, but if it does, then I should just leave the table & stop grumbling to myself, thinking he has something to do with stopping my winning streak. 2003-05-12 16:39:22
Grifter crackerjacky....I'm gonna go after your post like a "redbone hound after a 'coon" because I have heard people say this so often over the past 30+ years and it is BS (and I don't mean basic strategy); so accept my apologies in advance. What other players do at the table does NOT affect your winnings or losings "one whipstitch". All you have to do is play your own hand correctly....In the long run, his/her play will all "equal out" and won't affect you. This is a mathematical fact stated by every good author and every good "player"....Sure, it will get on your nerves and you won't like it, but it will NOT affect your $$$$$. Take for example your own post about the guy splittin' tens. If the deck is negative he is HELPING you by getting rid of more cards and thus to a new shoe quicker....Think about it. Direct Answer To Your Question: I just 'grit my teeth and ride it out'. If it really bothers you, take your winnings and take a break. Don't worry about it....He/She DEFINITELY will NOT cause you to lose the next six hands in a row. 2003-05-12 15:24:37
crackerjacky It's 3/4 thru the shoe, head's up against the dealer & you take every hand! It is rapid fire (faster than the bonus round) because is a CSM, Digital & live dealer is working with me. The streak is on! Then someone moves into the table, %%#@@@##!! and lst thing he does is (after long pause) split his 10's. And, you know the party is over before it is over. Do you cash out immediately & find another lonely dealer? This happened recently & I just want to know what others in this room would do under the circumstances. Do you run or hang around to see what happens & maybe lose the next 6 hands? 2003-05-12 14:45:12
Sh Midnight, RE: the crazy 8 nightmare. We've all been there. It's like I tell people when they ask my advice and I doesn't work. All you can do is make the right play. It's also why never celebrate until the dealer has paid you. 2003-05-12 09:34:43
Midnite ps- welcome aboard. Glad to have you join us. 2003-05-12 05:44:49

Michigan Dave With houses changing the play to get a bigger advantage (DD on 9,10,11 only, 6/5 BJ etal), what can be done to alter the house's mind? Don't play these tables, Keep educating with websites like this and word of mouth at the casinos themselves. From what I have seen, there are far too many players that are not concerned with these changes. So houses will continue to alter the rules (especially at the low stakes tables where less skilled people like me play) so even BS players won't have a chance. And if it works on the small tables, can the larger tables be far behind? Comments? Thank You. 2003-05-11 05:55:56
