The Bagger My first post on this board didn't get any response. So I went to the library and reserved "bringing down the house", and checked out “KO the Casino”. I have many questions about my play. I have tracked my win-lose at the casino and for the 5 times I have went I am up 235 (i am only 18). I have won more but i like to tip my dealer and also buy a nice cigar. I play using a basic strategy card. They let me use it at the table. The last time I went to the casino I implemented my new betting strategy. I play at a table that is $5-199. I bet 5 and if I win I keep it at 5. When I loose I try to win back my loosings. 5 lose 5 lose 10 lose 20 lose 40 lose 80 lose 160. I will move down the line faster if I loose a double. I was told a pit boss? That I was playing a negative progression, and to watch out? I don’t know it he was trying to look out for my best interest because I was winning a lot of money. Even if I go 30 win 70 loss hands I still come out. I don’t play the first hand out of a shoe unless I have lost the last hand. I don’t play the first hand of the shoe and watch those cards. I will count those cards. A lot of 2-3-4-5-6 I stay, a lot of tens I leave. This first hand I believe give me a slight advantage. My question is that should I try to win money on my loosing streaks by adding 5 to each hand? Or should I keep it the way it was. With my bank I can stand to loose 6 hands in a row. This is likely to happen 1.58% of the first hand drawn. Please respond. 2003-04-23 15:28:27
wharrisIU1 Thanks Grifter...I thought I had it set on 4 decks but maybe not. 2003-04-23 12:49:26
Grifter wharris..I'm not Slow Bleeder, but....9 vs 2: - Single/Double Deck, you double. - Four/Six/Eight Deck, you do not double. 2003-04-23 05:37:01
wharrisIU1 Slow Bleeder-The blackjack trainer is great but one thing I didn't get. I had a 9 against a dealer 2 and I hit but the strategy trainer said DD. Any thoughts on this...Bill 2003-04-22 08:26:52
Ron T SH, In Walter Thomason's book "Twenty-first Century Blackjack" (worth buying based on your question) did an analysis of thousands of dealt hands in coming up with his progressive betting system, and as an off chute, he also came up a Quit Point which maximized his progressive betting results. John Patrick has a couple of quit the shoe points in his book and I also believe it's in one of Jerry Patterson's earlier books. I believe in streaks and don't want to fight them when they are going the wrong way. 2003-04-22 03:13:11
SH Ron T. ... just to play devil's advocate here on leaving the shoe after four straight losses. Aren't the Dahl-type systems (betting the minimum after losses) kind of designed to weather those type storms. No guarantee, of course, but at the least it would seem the law averages would be on your side for the fifth hand. Just a thought. 2003-04-21 18:36:53
sld007 Can anyone give me any info on the casino princesa which sails twice a day out of Miami? Only $10/person and they've got full casino play including BJ from $3 to $50 table minimums. 2003-04-21 14:51:05
Ron T sld007, I do leave a table after 4 loses in a row. I had read that in a couple of books, tried it and it seems to have a positive effect on my gaming results. I have to play during a week day in order to do that in the Connecticut casinos. 2003-04-21 07:44:55
sld007 ron t sh and slow bleeder-try my modified dahl - if you lose 4 hands in a row--you are out of that shoe. you still get credit for playing (they never notice) and you save more money in the long run. Also, i pull back to level 1 if i get to level 4 (i.e. at 25 level after i win second 100) 2003-04-20 09:22:06
Ron T SH and Slow Bleeder, it sounds like we are all on the same page (progressive betting) by adjusting our bets according to play results. I have to win two hands in a row before I start my modified progressive betting system of up and pulling. 2003-04-20 04:18:53
SH Ron T, it sounds like we are on the same page with the slight adjustments to BS according to size of bets. Slow Bleeder's method makes sense but, frankly, I like the progressive betting just to keep it interesting. I start at $10 and will increase the bet $5 after wins up to a $25 bet (dragging five, leaving five; dragging 10, leaving five, etc.). But the only time ever I take even money is on the $20 bet, figuring I need the win to give me the shot at getting to the $25 bet. Once I get there, though, I want the shot to BJ with the big bet. 2003-04-20 01:10:26
Ron T Slow Bleeder, I was mistaken to say basic strategy is based on a flat bet betting system when I know it's probability of play. I met to imply that since my initial bet is $10 and when I get on a winning streak and my bet goes to $30 or 300% of my $10 bet, I'm willing to for go that 5 to 12% advantage on what is still a losing hand by not splitting the 8's. 2003-04-19 14:52:52
Slow Bleeder I must disagree with you, Ron T. Basic strategy is based on the probability of play outcome, not on wagers associated with a hand. The best play is always the one that results in the most gain (or least loss) over extended play. The method you describe of modifying your strategy as a way to mitigate possible losses has the effect of lowering your winning percentage. Consider my alternative strategy. I flat bet unless my winnings support progressive betting. I change the range of my progressive betting based on how much I'm winning. If I'm having no luck for the day I wind up flat betting until I'm down 20 betting units, but I always have a reserve so that I can double/split every bet I make according to basic strategy. Hey, that's why I chose the moniker Slow Bleeder. If I'm having an off day, I go down one betting unit at a time. 2003-04-19 14:05:08
Ron T SH (2003-03-30) I also am a basic strategy player, using a self Modified Dahl/Thomason progressive betting system. I will faithfully follow basic strategy until my bet gets over $25, then I change my strategy so I no longer split 8's against 9,10,A and I take even money on a blackjack because my bet is 3 times my initial flat bet. Basic strategy is based on a flat bet system and this is 3 times that flat bet so I seize the profit. I really spent a lot of time thinking about this, hope this helps. 2003-04-19 13:15:53
Slow Bleeder One final note on my Strategy Trainer post. The simulation tracks total, won, lost, and push hands. The total minus the sum of won and lost hands gives you the number of surrendered hands. 2003-04-19 06:44:04
Slow Bleeder Here's some info that might be useful for some people. The web site BlackjackInfo.com has an excellent simulation for free. Various playing environments can be simulated and betting is tracked. The simulation has the option of prompting you when your play isn't in line with optimum stategy for the game, which makes it a very useful training tool. I prefer the original Javascript version of the Strategy Trainer with simple graphics. The new Flash version wastes too much time with the mechanics of presenting eye candy. I've found the simulation to be accurate. That is, with "perfect play" I generaly loose slightly more hands than are won, but with correct splits and doubles you can usually have a good go. You can also experiment with various betting stragies. I practice at stopping when I'm down 20 betting units which seems to happen three out of four sessions. About one out of four games gets me a win of 20 or more betting units. It's no where near the fun of a real table, but you won't learn cheaper. 2003-04-19 06:38:51
Slow Bleeder Thanks to pshea and Trop Guy for your 4/13 postings to my question. pshea: I'll give the $10 Foxwoods table a try when I get a chance, and I'll post here at that time. Thanks again for the intelligence info about when the $10 tables are open, that saves me a lot of grief. Trop Guy: Thanks for the info on $5 tables in AC. Foxwoods/Mohegan-Sun are less than two hours from for me, but AC is about six which makes it too long for a day trip. Still, I will probably get down that way sometime on other business. As for Vegas, I hope to experience the "Miracle in the Desert" some day. 2003-04-19 06:19:01
