Ace What's the general feeling on tipping the dealer? Some say you should tip because they only make minimum wage. If this is true I don't know why it's my fault/problem. I don't mind tipping a pleasant, friendly dealer a bit, but some players are constantly throwing $$$ at the dealer, and it seems that kind of behavior would severely cut into my meager winnings. What's the general consensus on this? I don't want to be a total cheapskate, but... 2003-04-03 11:10:33
sld007 midnught-Don't you work? Must be nice taking all these BJ trips. What I meant by "no brainers" are 10/10, hard 19, etc. There are alomost NONE of those hands in the online game. 2003-04-03 06:44:15
Midnite batonrouge- About the best you can hope for with flat betting is to break even and you have to have a strong game, to even do that. I am afraid there is more to the game, than just learning basic strategy. But that is where you need to start. I am always glad to try and help new players, you can e-mail me at : midnitegambler@cox.net and I am Not trying to sell anything..... 2003-04-02 23:39:19
Midnite brokeathome-No, you should not take even money on a BJ. Yes, it is a sure win, but it cost's you money in the long run. As for "cheat sheets", most casino's will let you use them (they sell them in their gift shops) but you need to ask, as some will not let you use them. I will be in Ileta casino in Albuquerque N.M. this Sat. Then Laughlin Nv. for three days, starting Sun. and then on to Vegas, to play in the million dollar BJ tournament at the Hilton. 2003-04-02 23:25:37
Midnite wharris-You can find Donald Dahl's method in his book. It is up your bet after the second win in a row 10-10-15-15-20-20,etc. Anytime you lose a hand, you start over. 2003-04-02 23:14:40
batonrougeboatgambler also, the boats here in B.R. use atlantic city rules with multiple decks, any diff. in game there and at hit or stand i need to be aware of? 2003-04-02 20:14:59
batonrougeboatgambler i dont use a betting stat. i bet $10 everytime, when playing on this site. which is usually what i do when i go to the boat, unless i get a good feeling about the next hand, then i might up my bet a little. but, that is just a feeling, not a strategic betting move, and i never really know what to expect. sometimes i just lose more money, then go right back to my 5 or 10 dollar bets for a while. im assuming that is called flat betting, right? will i never really get a head betting like this, or should i say hit it pretty big? i know im playing the cards right, and when i dont ever clean house, i just chalk it up to winning some, and losing some. just seems i lose a lot more then win. sucks cuz i love playing so much! 2003-04-02 20:12:42
brokeathome one more question for all you blackjack experts out there...should I take even money, insurance (i'm not sure how this works), or just hope for the best on a blackjack when the dealer shows an ace? 2003-04-02 18:26:24
brokeathome hey gang. I'm going to vegas this weekend for the first time! can I use the "cheat sheets" from this site while I am actually playing at the tables, or do the casino's in general say no to that? 2003-04-02 18:05:11
brokeathome I've noticed that sometimes this site will say to stay when I have a 12 and the dealer has a two showing, and other times it'll tell me to take a hit? what's up with this? 2003-04-02 17:59:37
wharrisIU1 Where do we find the Dahl method of betting? 2003-04-02 15:06:25
Midnite batonrouge-What betting method are you using ? I also win as many as I lose and I just flat bet, as I am not interested in the betting part. If you are losing that many sessions, it may be time to rethink your betting method. But that would be hard to say until, we know what it is. I have to disagree with 007, there are plenty of "no-brainers" 2003-04-02 14:45:56
sld007 batonrouge-I can't speak to your average--mine is usually about 50/50. But remember, out of the 20 or so hands you get, MOST of them are difficult decision-type hands that you might make the right call, BUT still lose the hand. Let's face it, the offered hit or stand game has little or zero "no-brainers" (e.g. hard 17-20, total of 3-8). Consequently, the hands have been eliminated which would have-in the case of a hard 19 or 20-drasticlly improved your winning percentage. 2003-04-02 14:20:30
batonrougeboatgambler has anybody noticed that when you play with hitorstand rules and play a hand the way they want you too, you may get your 100% but RARELY, make any money. isnt this a LITTLE bit discouraging, when trying to play by the rules? out of last 10-100% games (1)time!!!! i came out ahead. ($20):( Do i need to try a differant betting stat.? 2003-04-02 11:52:50
Midnite wmm-007 was right on target. If you hit when you have A-6, you will win 16 times MORE, per 100 hands (on average) than if you stand. That may not sould like much difference to you, But it is HUGE. Lets say you hit your A-6, against the dealers 7,8,9 or face card and draw a 9. Now you have "messed up" your hand. What hand ? A 17 does not "beat" anything. If the dealer does not break, you will Lose (or push, once in a while). So if you hit and drew a 9 and then stood , you would have played it wrong, but you are still not much worse off, than standing on the A-6 is. Both plays would be wrong. You Never stand with A-6. It is Always, Hit or Double.... As for standing with A-7, when the dealer has an 8 up. You will win 7 times more by standing, than if you hit it. Hope this helps. 2003-04-02 11:02:24
sld007 wmm-You always hit the Ace, 6 because 17 (in any form) is a weak hand. Now you would be foolish to hit a hard 17, since the chances of busting far outway the chances of improvement; however, with a soft 17, the chances for improvement far outway mathematically the chances for winning with the 17. 2003-04-02 09:43:17
wmm Trying to understand the soft hands. When dealer has a 7 showing, why hit the Ace,6? You already have 17. When dealer has 8 showing, you stand on Ace, 7. 2003-04-02 08:42:39
